Our Story

Built on purpose,
grown on trust

Nyama Law Chambers was established in 2016 by Lawrence Nyama as a sole practitioner in Harare, Zimbabwe. The firm has grown steadily over the past 10 years, and now specialises in conveyancing, family, estate planning and administration, and notary matters.

We have practitioners with expertise in Residential Conveyancing, Commercial Property, Matrimonial and Child Care matters, Wills, and Elderly Client matters. Lawrence heads the Family, Property, Conveyancing & Business department, now his main area of practice.

What has not changed since day one is the principle: the law should work for everyone who walks through our door, not just those who arrive with confidence and means.

The Team

The people behind the practice

A personal approach means you know exactly who is handling your matter. Tap any card to read the full profile.

Our Philosophy

Why we do this

"We cater and provide solutions to the problems of the people."Founding principle
"The law is not to intimidate, but to protect and serve."Practice philosophy

These are not taglines. They are the operating instructions of the firm. They shape how we answer the phone, how we draft an offer to purchase, how we approach a divorce, and how we explain a court matter to a client who has never set foot in a lawyer's office before.

A Brand Value

The collaborative philosophy

"We are litigators. But our default is to resolve rather than fight."

Across every department of the firm, but especially in family matters, we apply a philosophy borrowed from collaborative family law. Where it is genuinely possible to achieve a fair, durable outcome through structured negotiation rather than adversarial litigation, that is what we recommend.

This is not weakness. It is the recognition that an outcome reached by agreement between adults, with dignity preserved on both sides, almost always outlasts an outcome imposed by a court. We litigate vigorously when collaboration is refused or when circumstances demand it. But we do not litigate as a first instinct.

Who We Serve

In support of marginalised communities

The legal system has historically struggled to serve those without resources or familiarity. We carry a particular commitment to changing that, ensuring that access to justice remains available to all.

We undertake pro bono work in qualifying matters affecting children, survivors of domestic violence, widows facing inheritance disputes, and persons with disabilities.

Women

Inheritance, maintenance, matrimonial property, gender-based violence protection.

Children

Custody, guardianship, child marriage prevention, child abuse reporting.

The Elderly

Wills, elderly client matters, capacity, financial protection.

Widows & Widowers

Surviving spouse rights, inheritance disputes, customary law tensions.

Persons with Disabilities

Access rights, discrimination claims, capacity matters, guardianship.

First-time Buyers

First-time homebuyers and small business owners navigating conveyancing.
